Why I Love Plexus & Bulletproof!

Posted by on May 3, 2017 in Plexus | 0 comments

As a Holistic Health Coach, I love helping people reach their health & wellness goals! Not all Nutrition experts agree on how to achieve optimal health – and my way isn’t the only way – so I encourage you to experiment with the diet and supplement protocol that works best for your unique body! Everyone is different! My approach is a 4-step system: Take supplements! Most Americans are nutrient deprived because of depleted nutrients in our food, the increase in stress and demands in our lives, and the abundance of toxins and chemicals all around us! My supplement partner is Plexus Worldwide and I love these plant-based products!   Improve your nutrition! What you eat affects how you feel! If you are eating crap, you will feel like crap! I personally eat a high fat, high veggie diet. I follow the Bulletproof Nutrition protocol! It has helped me lose fat, improve my brain health, and my athletic performance is off the charts!   Mange your stress! If you eat “perfect” (who really does that though?), you still might have a hard time reaching your health goals because your life is over scheduled and stressed! Try deep breathing, yoga, journaling, praying and meditation to help relax your mind. When your mind relaxes, your body will follow.   Moving your body is critical to feeling great! Sweating is an incredible way to detox the body! Too little, or too much exercise can work against you, so a balanced approach is best!   PLEXUS I am so blessed by Plexus! I chose Plexus as my product partner 3 years ago…and as a Holistic Health Coach, it was one of the smartest decisions that I have ever made.   Prior to Plexus, I was a supplement snob. My husband used to joke and say that most husbands had to worry about their wives spending money on clothes, purses and shoes! Not him! He had to worry about my supplement spending! Ha! I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars on supplements over the years. There was a time when I was spending $400-$600 a month on supplements! Believe me when I say, I’ve tried everything! Praise God that Plexus is a more affordable option! And our products WORK!   Although our products don’t say “organic” on the label, rest assured that the ingredients in our products are QUALITY! One of the first things I did before I ordered Plexus was to take a good hard look at every single ingredient in every product! After I scoured the labels, I put my skepticism aside, ordered the TRIPLEX & Accelerator…and the rest is history!   Our products are UNIQUE. They feature ingredients that most supplements don’t have. For example, the ALOE in our X-Factor is unusual. Most multi-vitamins don’t have aloe, which is an ingredient that increases the absorption of vitamins and minerals by 200% (plus aloe is considered a superfood). Slim has Alpha Lipoic Acid as an ingredient. My mom took Alpha Lipoic Acid by itself during her cancer journey to improve her immune system (which is one of the reasons I decided to try Plexus). Our Mega X has a unique source of Omegas…it comes from the Ahi flower. No one else has that! The Ahi flower is amazing and has one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory properties...

Yoga Interview: Lauryn Ritzmann

One of my favorite things about becoming a Yoga Teacher is the community! I have met the most wonderful & amazing people! And Lauryn Ritzmann is no exception!   Lauryn is the Louisville CorePower Yoga Studio Manager. She is a beautiful mom of two and hails from Long Island, NY! And she is one of my favorite Yoga Teachers. Lauryn’s energy is infectious and she is always smiling! Lauryn is by far one of the most encouraging yoga teachers that I have taken a class from! Her classes are fun & challenging. She is humble and really funny! Y’all, yoga is supposed to be FUN!   Before she became a Yoga Teacher, Lauryn worked at Starbucks for 7 years. Begrudgingly, she attended her first yoga class at CorePower Yoga  five years ago. Her sister Nicole – who is also a CorePower Yoga Teacher – dragged her by her beautiful curly locks! Nicole knew that Lauryn would fall in love with yoga, just like she had! But Lauryn had many reservations about starting a yoga practice! She wasn’t flexible, she disliked the heat, she didn’t want other people looking at her not doing the poses correctly, and she didn’t have the stereotypical yoga teacher’s body.   But after Lauryn’s first yoga class at CorePower Broomfield East, she was hooked! And the rest is history! Because of her amazing yoga practice, Lauryn is happier. She is less concerned about what other people think of her. She has connected to her intuition and she even says that yoga has made her a better mom because she feels more centered.   I love me some Lauryn! Her goal is to create and maintain a positive vibe at the Louisville CPY studio. And she is super successful at this, y’all! CPY Louisville is one of my favorite studios to take a yoga class!   Thank you Lauryn for making this world a better place! Your enthusiasm, positivity and passion for yoga fuel us to continue with our yoga practice and encourage others!   Have you taken a yoga class at CorePower Yoga Louisville? I would love to hear from you! Comment below!   🙂  ...

My Yoga Breakthrough

My Yoga Breakthrough

My Yoga Breakthrough   “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to it’s old dimensions.” -Supreme Court Justice, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. When I completed CorePower Yoga Teacher Training in December, something began to shift in both my mind and my heart.   You see, sugar has always had a strong hold on me. You might even say I have been a sugar addict most of my life. When I started Yoga Teacher Training, I was in full-blown sugar binging mode. I had fallen into a place of unhappiness. I had been sleeping in more, feeling unmotivated and unfulfilled. And to be honest, this behavior continued throughout most of my Teacher Training program. I became even more stressed out because the work that was required to be successful in the training was more than I had anticipated.     The shift happened on November 30th. It was Beginner Guest night and I would be co-teaching my first class with real people in it. I had studied hard. I had practiced a lot. I felt ready. Nervousness and excitement were coursing through my veins!     And…I rocked it!     That night I experienced a high that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I felt happy. I felt like I was in the right place.     The 8-week journey to becoming a Certified Yoga Teacher was arduous. I did something that scared me. I was nervous and doubtful. I cried…a lot. And I almost quit. But in the end, I persevered. I conquered a fear. I completed something that was really hard.     The challenge, the difficulty created the shift.   Fear -> Do it anyway -> Breakthrough   Now, I feel free. I feel powerful. I feel whole.   Thank you CorePower Yoga Teacher Training! My life will never be the same! My Yoga Breakthrough inspired me to create a new online coaching program called Be Fearless. My hope is that I can help guide you in creating a shift in your life!     PS: I have been sugar free for 40 days!   How has yoga changed your life? Comment below! I would love to hear from you! 🙂  ...

Go Healthy in Vegas!

Go Healthy in Vegas!

I am so STOKED to be in Las Vegas June 12-16 for the Plexus Annual Convention! Twelve thousand of my friends and I will be enjoying the MGM Grand, all with pink drinks in hand!   One of my favorite things to do before traveling is to find all of the healthy spots so that I can have access to green juice and healthy eats. Now don’t get me wrong, I will NOT be eating healthy 100% of the time! But I do like to incorporate at least 1-2 healthy meals per day while on vacation!   I travel with my NutriBullet so that I can make green smoothies every morning. Not only does this save money, but I find that when I start my day with healthy food, I end up craving less unhealthy stuff later on in the day! I add a Barley Green powder to my smoothie in case I don’t have access to a grocery store to get fresh veggies, which is super easy to travel with (THIS is the brand that I use).   Here are some healthy and fun places to check out while in Las Vegas…   JUICE & SMOOTHIE BARS   Pressed Juicery www.pressedjuicery.com 3730 S. Las Vegas Blvd. (inside the Aria Hotel) This place doesn’t have fresh juice, so I’ll stop by on Sunday and pick up some raw, organic bottled juice to enjoy when I get hungry during the Plexus Convention General Sessions. Bottled juice isn’t as nutrient dense as fresh pressed juice, but it is better than no juice at all! Choose juice that has mostly vegetables (stay away from too much fruit). I’ll be buying Roots 1 and Greens 4 . The Pressed Juicery website says that the MGM is getting a location, but I’m unsure if it will be open when we are there! Aria Hotel is across the street and 4 hotels down from the MGM Grand. I believe it is the closest juice bar to our hotel.     Juice Farm www.juicefarmcoldpressed.com/lasvegas 3325 Las Vegas Blvd. (inside the Palazzo Hotel) I might go here when I have some time to walk. The Palazzo is pretty far down on the strip from the MGM Grand (basically on the opposite end) and the Juice menu has a lot of fruit. If I do have time to go, I’ll be trying the Cucumber, Lemon, Parsley juice – sounds so refreshing! Juice Farm also has smoothies, nut milks and wellness shots (the “Defense” and “Renew” shots sound delightful). Cheers!   Squeeze Fresh 3475 S. Las Vegas Blvd (inside the LINQ Hotel) This place will be great to take your “I don’t want to be healthy in Vegas” friends to. If you want, they will add alcohol to your fresh squeezed juice! I’ll be building my own juice! I like this option because they make the juice right in front of you!  There are also smoothies and plenty of cocktails to choose from. This will be a good walk from the MGM. Closer than the Palazzo, but about 5 hotels down from where we will be!     Healthy Lunch Options   Canyon Ranch SpaClub Grill 3335 S. Las Vegas Blvd. (inside the Venetian/Palazzo) Many of their ingredients are organic and they have a great selection of protein and veggies! It will be...

Guest Post: Cheesy Chicken Quesadillas

Guest Post: Cheesy Chicken Quesadillas

You’d be hard-pressed to find a child that doesn’t love cheese, so grilled cheese sandwiches or quesadillas are always a good meal. And an even better meal is when you sneak a vegetable in there.   Cheesy Chicken Quesadillas Makes 3 quesadillas (3 folded tortillas) *This recipe can be made dairy-free and gluten-free   Ingredients: 3 whole grain tortillas (I used spelt tortillas because they are soft like flour tortillas yet they are a whole grain and a superfood. You can use gluten-free tortillas) 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese or Daiya brand non-dairy shredded mozzarella ½ cup of carrot baby food or 1 serving of Activz carrot powder   Directions: Put 1 tortilla in a large skillet and begin to heat on medium. In a bowl, use a fork to mix the shredded cheese with either the baby food or organic veggie powder. As the tortilla is heating, add 1/3 of cheese mixture to the center of the tortilla leaving a 1-inch margin around the edges.   Fold tortilla and continue to heat until cheese is melted.   Remove from skillet and place on plate. Repeat for 2 more tortillas.   Option: Use the same method for creamy grilled cheese sandwiches.   Looking for more great recipes that will hide nutritious foods, like beets, sweet potatoes, carrots, kale, spinach and more? Check out my cookbook, How to Get Your Kids to Beg for Veggies: Quick & Easy Hidden Veggie Recipes the Whole Family Will Love. I hope it will inspire you, as well as provide a few great ideas for boosting the nutritional value of your family’s meals.   About the Author: Leann Forst is a happily married wife, mother of 2 wonderful children, board certified holistic health practitioner, author, speaker, medical researcher and health education advocate. After her son became chronically sick with asthma at the age of 2, she refused to accept the notion presented by conventional doctors that her son would live his life on medication.   She began her quest to learn everything she could about health and disease.   She now makes it her life’s mission to share information about how nearly all diseases can be reversed by diet and lifestyle.  Leann speaks frequently at schools, hospitals, organizations, and on radio shows.  She is also a principal at Groovy Beets Wellness Company, providing individual and group health coaching.  Leann has authored 2 books: “100 Ways to Lose Weight” and “How to Get Your Kids to Beg for Veggies”, both available on...

Will Eating Fat Make You Fat?

Posted by on Aug 12, 2015 in Healthy Eating, Healthy Lifestyle, Plexus | 3 comments

Will Eating Fat Make You Fat?

If you eat fat, you get fat, right? Nope! That statement couldn’t be farther from the truth. The “non-fat” health trend from the 90’s has actually made America fat.   You remember SnackWell cookies? I used to eat an entire box of them at one time. They had no fat, so I couldn’t gain weight, right!? Ha!   When you eat “non-fat” or “low-fat” foods, you are eating products that have added sugar in them. You see, when food manufacturers take the fat out, the food tastes terrible! So they have to add sugar in to make it taste good. And sugar WILL make you fat. Stay away from anything that says “diet,” “non-fat,” “fat-free,” or “sugar-free.”   Sixty percent of our brain is made up of fat. So if you have brain fog, feel forgetful, or absent-minded, then I suggest you eat more healthy fats!

You must become a “fat savvy” consumer. Knowing which fats are good and which fats are bad is critical to maintaining a healthy life.   When reading labels, keep your eyes open for dangerous “trans-fats.” There are some loopholes that food manufacturers are allowed to use in order to sneak trans-fat into their products. Partially-hydrogenated oils are trans-fat. When a fat molecule is partially hydrogenated, the fat is carried around in the blood and leads to plaque buildup in the arteries. Although a product may say ‘0g trans-fat’, this may not be true. Only foods and supplements with 0.5g of trans-fat and greater are required to be listed on the food label. Next time you browse a label, search the ingredient list for the term ‘partially hydrogenated’ and do not buy it if you see it!   Saturated fats are found in animal products such as butter, cheese, whole milk, ice cream, cream, and fatty meats. They are also found in some tropical plants and vegetable oils such as coconut, palm and palm kernel. Saturated fats are not as dangerous as you think. In fact, coconut oil is really healthy and is the oil to use for cooking since it is far less likely to be damaged through heating.
I also use organic grass-fed butter when I cook!   Omega-3 fats improve your cell’s response to insulin, neurotransmitters and other messengers. They also help the repair process when your cells are damaged.   You could have an Omega 3 deficiency if you have the following symptoms: -Mental fog -Weight gain -Allergies -Poor sleep -Dry hair -Lack of concentration -Depression -Brittle nails -Arthritis -Memory problems -Dry skin -Fatigue   Healthy sources of fat will improve brain function, balance hormones, and will allow the body to release fat (yes, you can lose weight by eating more fat).   My favorite healthy fats include: olive oil, coconut oil, organic unsalted grass-fed butter, raw walnuts, raw almonds, raw pecans, avocados, almond butter, organic pasture-raised eggs, olives, salmon, most cold water fish, flax seeds, chia seeds, raw pumpkin seeds, raw sunflower seeds, and raw hempseeds.   Fats to avoid include peanut oil, canola oil
, vegetable oil, soybean oil
, margarine, and any oil that is hydrogenated
.   I recommend that EVERYONE get on an Omega 3 supplement. If you are already taking an Omega 3 supplement and still struggle with some of the above listed symptoms, consider switching to Plexus Mega X! In addition to Omega 3, it has Omega 5, 6, 7 & 9. And it is plant based, so no fish burps!   What healthy fats are you eating? Comment below! I would love to hear from you!   Your Health Rocks,   🙂   Kim Wilson Pollock...
